Hepatocyte growth factor/scatter factor (HGF/SF) is a paracrine cellular growth, motility and morphogenic factor.

HGF is secreted by mesenchymal cells and targets and acts primarily upon epithelial cells and endothelial cells, but also acts on haemopoietic progenitor cells.

HGF is a potent mitogen for mature parenchymal hepatocyte cells and acts as a growth factor for a broad spectrum of tissues and cell types.

Recombinant human HGF is an 80 kDa disulfide-linked heterodimeric protein consisting of the alpha chain (463 amino acids) and the beta chain (234 amino acids).
